Job Description – Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller and also works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and other department heads. The ideal candidate would have a bachelor’s degree in accounting (or equivalent) with experience in both public accounting and statutory (insurance) accounting. Property and casualty insurance experience is preferred, but not required.
Job Description
• Prepare various daily, weekly, and monthly dashboards to aid management in evaluating both the financial and qualitative metrics of the business
• Prepare financial statements by line of business to evaluate the profitability of various different product offerings
• Record various monthly general journal entries in connection with monthly closing process; including cash, premium and loss entries
• Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory statements
• Bank and other account reconciliations completed on a monthly basis
• Prepare quarterly and annual statement work papers
• Assist in the annual audit, including compiling audit work papers and drafting audit reports
• Assist Finance department in a myriad of other projects and initiatives as needed such as budgeting, forecasting, state/regulator presentations, etc.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelors’ degree in accounting (or equivalent)
• Advanced in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V-Lookups, etc.)
• Proficient in Microsoft Access
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Must have strong organizational skills
• Willingness to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to multi-task
• Audit experience desired
