Controller

Accounting Now Colorado Springs, CO (Onsite) Full-Time


Position Overview

This finance leadership position is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial data management, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal standards. The role includes managing payroll, directing monthly and annual financial close processes, supporting audits and filings, and contributing to strategic financial reporting.




Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain oversight of accounting systems and ledger accuracy across business units

  • Prepare account reconciliations, adjustments, and support entries for monthly reporting cycles

  • Review all payment and receivable activities, as well as monthly journal entries submitted by team members

  • Lead the monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness and timeliness

  • Manage tracking and reporting of organizational assets and depreciation

  • Prepare materials and documentation for annual audits and tax-related filings

  • Support daily financial operations, including invoice management, expense tracking, and cash flow monitoring

  • Create financial summaries and reports as requested by internal departments or external partners

  • Participate in budget planning, forecasting, and strategic financial reviews

  • Direct all payroll-related processes, including end-of-year documentation and legal compliance

  • Identify operational or financial risks, and work proactively to resolve or escalate issues

  • Collaborate on the creation and improvement of finance policies, procedures, and staff training

  • Recommend enhancements to systems, processes, and controls in consultation with senior leadership




Team Leadership

This position manages a small finance team, including accounting personnel dedicated to general operations and foundation-related activities, as well as a support coordinator for transactional functions.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Able to thrive in fast-paced, team-based environments with cross-department collaboration

  • Advanced proficiency with financial software and Excel

  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and address issues effectively




Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)

  • 6–8 years of hands-on accounting experience

  • Minimum of 1–3 years in nonprofit financial management (required)

  • Experience with foundation or grant-based accounting (preferred)

  • CPA or Master’s degree is advantageous




Other Information

  • This is primarily an in-office position; hybrid flexibility may be discussed

  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be necessary during peak periods

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., office supplies or files)
