Position Overview:
The Mortgage Compliance Underwriter examines residential mortgages for regulation and compliance accuracy. Candidates will be adept with RESPA/TRID, credit guidelines, and underwriting. The role also utilizes general knowledge of various loans types such as Conventional, FHA, VA and USDA loans.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of mortgage industry credit guidelines and policies for VA, FHA, FNMA, FHLMC & USDA
  • Must possess a complete understanding of Fannie Mae's DU and Freddie Mac's LP systems
  • Demonstrate a high level of fluency of complex personal and business financial analysis to include credit, income, assets and compliance documentation
  • Knowledge must include: calculation and verification of income & assets, evaluation of credit reports, purchase contracts, appraisals, title commitments, and other loan pertinent documentation
  • Analyze tax returns and /or financial statements for Self-Employed Borrowers, Partnerships, S Corporations and/or C Corporations
  • Exhibit working knowledge of AUS analysis to determine applicable loan conditions
  • Exhibit working knowledge of appraisal evaluation to identify deficiencies therein
  • Record and articulate inconsistencies throughout documentation review
  • Perform pre-funding underwriting review of recently closed Correspondent mortgage loans to identify and set pre-funding conditions.

Suggested Requirements:

  • Current or previous signing authority of $500,000 or more preferred ($750,000 or higher for Jumbo)
  • Manual underwriting experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years' mortgage experience as a frontline underwriter or due diligence/back-end underwriter with emphasis on credit review
  • Excellent PC skills and possess high level of proficiency in Microsoft products
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and teamwork, punctual, dependable and adhere to company policies and procedures
