Job Summary
Alene is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to take our cost accounting to the next level. This position is located in our New Hampshire plant and will also serve our Ohio plant both remotely and on site. You will report directly to our Controller (located in New Hampshire) but will also work closely with our Chief Operating Officer and have ample opportunity to work collaboratively in cross functional teams. You will be responsible for applying cost accounting principles to our financial data to provide a view of our operating results that are beyond GAAP and unlock key insights into company performance. Your first step will be assisting the Controller in converting the company to a full standard costing model. You will do this by managing the process to refine/develop, implement, and control labor and material standards for our existing products in our ERP system. You will then take ownership over this process which entails developing standard costs for new products, regular measurement of material and labor variances (with action items), annual standards reset, and continuous improvement of the overall process. Next, you will reassess our current overhead allocation models and 1) determine if we are using the optimal cost models 2) reset cost models as necessary and 3) implement a new overhead allocation model as necessary. Based on your guidance, this initiative may take the form of a full-scale ABC costing implementation or something more flexible and innovative.
This position will also be focused on ensuring the accuracy of our job costing reports (backward looking) and product costing for pricing approval (forward looking). Your focus on job costing reports will entail 1) ensuring item masters and BOMs are complete and accurate and driving the correct material costs into the job costing reports, and 2) working with the Finance and Manufacturing teams to ensure that our labor tracking tool is reporting complete data that is allocated to jobs accurately. Your focus on product costing for pricing approval will entail your active participation in all relevant operational readiness and deployment meetings in which you will ask cost focused questions with the objective of capturing a complete and accurate product cost.
Finally, this position will focus on cost savings initiatives in all areas of the business, and ad hoc projects as directed by the Controller, COO, and other members of senior management.

3-5 Essential Job Functions
  • Manages processes involving establishment of standard costs of new products, and review/analysis of standard costs for existing products. Includes input and control in ERP system.
  • Measures and reports standard cost variances with action items to key players.
  • Material variances (PPV and usage)
  • Labor variances (efficiency and rate)
  • Manages preparation and execution of annual standard cost roll in ERP system and annual operating plan.
  • Determines overhead cost drivers and sets overhead allocation rates including drivers and rates for new manufacturing cells and configurations.
  • Ensures that inventory is accurately valued through correct forms (item masters, bills of material, etc.) and that costs have been correctly entered and maintained in our ERP system.
  • Item Master (including landed costs) and BOM review
  • Monitors accuracy of daily labor tracking and acts to correct errors
  • Monitors accuracy of daily CPG versus standards and acts to correct errors
  • Actively participates in the QFD and any other relevant operational readiness (and retrospective) meetings by thinking skeptically and asking cost focused questions with the objective of capturing a complete and accurate product cost.
  • Cost savings initiatives including, but not limited to 1) energy purchasing strategy 2) freight cost analysis on inventory and non-stock items 3) inventory scrap analysis 4) investigating inventory loss.
  • Ad hoc projects including, but not limited to 1) reassessment of fixed versus variable costs 2) driving the next action steps in our Profit Mapping initiative.

Range of Experience Required
