Job Description


Our client is seeking a payroll accountant/general ledger specialist with broad skills to manage the data flow and mapping between payroll and accounting. The role requires proficiency in multi-state payroll and general ledger recording and a thorough understanding of how entries impact financial statements. The successful candidate will be self-directed, detail oriented and a key member of the payroll department.
Requires advanced knowledge of the end-to-end payroll cycle. Hands-on experience with the various inputs and outputs such as third party interfaces, timekeeping, garnishments, tax filing/compliance, accounting, benefits, and other key areas that integrate with payroll is essential. This role interacts daily with internal business partners.

  • Accounting or Finance Degree from a 4 year University (CPP highly desirable)
  • A minimum of five (5) years hands-on experience payroll processing, reporting and general ledger recording for a large size company of +2500 employees
  • Experience processing ADP multi-state payroll
  • Must have a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and federal/state payroll tax laws along with a broad overall payroll and timekeeping knowledge.
  • Upload multi-state pay data to third-party payroll service based on pay type and GL coding
  • Reconcile the general ledger accounts monthly and annually
  • Works directly with the general ledger team, benefits, and other internal business partners to research and address needed payroll improvements that influence the accuracy of the financial statements at the system level.
  • Analyze pay data and accurately prepare and record journal entries
  • Ability to understand payroll issues and communicate solutions effectively and professionally
  • Organizes and reviews forms associated with federal, state, and local taxing authorities across multiple jurisdictions for accurate jurisdiction setup and remittance.
  • Assists in ensuring garnishments are timely and accurately remitted
  • Researches and advises on the accounting and statutory requirements of complex transactions (State paid family leave, State worker's compensation, Taxes, benefits, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal resources (HR, Payroll, Treasury, and General Ledger) for system improvements
  • Able to maintain highly confidential information in a professional manner
  • Excellent multi-tasking capabilities
  • Strong computer skills demonstrating a high proficiency in using a personal computer (PC), company communication tools (e.g. email, internet), and Microsoft products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of MS Excel - pivots, macros, v-look ups highly desirable.
