Job Description

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Staff Accountant needed to join our Finance Department. The Staff Accountant must be detailed, organized, and committed to accuracy in all transactions. The successful candidate will handle payroll, account reconciliations, journal entries and will provide assistance to both human resources and finance department as necessary.

Accounting Functions:

  • Maintain general ledger with regard to payroll postings.
  • Reconciles bank accounts and prepares necessary journal entries. Creates backup documentation for monthly closing records.
  • Provides backup for accounts payables.
  • Responsible for maintaining select balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Works directly with Controller on special projects as needed.
  • Monthly filings for sales/use/meals tax for six Massachusetts based companies

Payroll Functions:

  • Responsible for the full scope of accurate and timely, beginning to end, bi-weekly payroll processing for all divisions/locations of the company.
  • Oversee compliance with statutory reporting and periodic filing requirements.
  • Prepare and review payroll account reconciliations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of current employee data systems, ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Calculates and processes miscellaneous payments such as bonuses, extra shift payments, commissions and retroactive payments.
  • Maintains payroll and related records recording the accumulation and use of vacations, holidays, sick days, and miscellaneous leaves of absence.
  • Process 401(k) loans/withdrawals, deductions, mandatory notices and other plan compliance function.
  • Maintain consistency between policies, procedures, and practices across locations.
  • Work directly with Director of Human Resources on special projects as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 1 plus year of payroll experience, Paylocity software preferred.
  • College degree with accounting, business concentration.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality
  • Advanced or Intermediate Excel proficiency
  • Proven ability to act independently, exercise judgment and influence people to take appropriate actions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through with communication and a sense of urgency for deadlines.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
