Job Description

Assistant Controller

As a key member of our Accounting and Finance team, you will be responsible for providing leadership in the accounting function including developing accounting policies and procedures and overseeing the financial statement close process in areas not limited to External Reporting, the General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable, and Payroll, while ensuring accurate and effective processing and efficient execution.

Key Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for driving the monthly and quarterly close process
  • Analyze and provide commentary on the balance sheet and income statement variances
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and ad-hoc reporting for senior management
  • Prepare and review reconciliations as part of the close process including preparation of R&D accruals
  • Prepare SEC filings
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and assist with the preparation of workpapers in advance of audits
  • Review, recommend, and implement best practices regarding accounting policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other finance team members to identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the day to day operations as well as the close process, and assist with the implementation of such recommendations
  • Oversight of AP process, including, design, implementation, and maintenance of accounts payable reports and other GL reports to meet business needs
  • Mentor and provide leadership to direct reports; staff accountant and senior accountant
  • Perform other related duties and ad hoc projects as required by position

Knowledge: Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • CPA required
  • 10+ years of experience in Accounting
  • 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharma industry required
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience closing the books with a private or publicly traded company in the life sciences industry
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Net Suite and Concur preferred
